Pasadena City Council considers studying impacts of NFL team temporarily at Rose Bowl

The Pasadena City Council on Monday night will consider the first step toward offering the Rose Bowl as a temporary home to a National Football League team.
The first step is conducting an environmental impact study. That takes about eight months and costs $400,000. The Rose Bowl Operating Committee and the city would split the cost. Rose Bowl General Manager Darryl Dunn says it's worth it. He believes his stadium can provide a comfortable interim home to an NFL team waiting for its long-term home to be built:
“We're in the middle of a renovation which will be completed substantially by September of 2013, which would be the soonest a team would be moving here,” Dunn says. “The stadium will have a $160 million put into it by then.”
To lease to an NFL team, Pasadena would have to change a law that limits the number of major events at the Rose Bowl to 12 per year. Dunn says that's happened before: during the 1994 World Cup and when the L.A. Galaxy crashed at the Rose Bowl for a few seasons.
