PASADENA - The History Channel is bringing the “world's largest smoker and grill on wheels” from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. today to the Rose Bowl Flea Market as part of its Cross-Country Cookout tour in nine cities.
The 80-foot long Utlimate Smoker and Grill - which is the size of a tanker and is hauled by a semi - has the capacity to slow cook up to 2,000 pounds of BBQ at one time. The unusual appliance will be operated by “grill-master Trace `Rib Whisperer' Arnold” and samples of hickory-smoked and jalapeno cheddar sausage will be offered.
Attendees will also get a chance to meet Danielle Colby of the History Channel's reality TV series “American Pickers” and play backyard games ladder golf to win merchandise and prizes.
R.G. Canning's Rose Bowl Flea Market has been operating in Pasadena for 45 years and is the biggest flea market on the West Coast, according to Dennis Dodson of R.G. Canning Attractions.
The flea market, which is held on the second Sunday of each month, boasts some 2,400 vendors and as many as 20,000 people, he said
While the History Channel has done shows at the Rose Bowl before, this is the first time it will feature the BBQ cookout, Dodson said.
The Rose Bowl is located at 1001 Rose Bowl Drive.
